Pedals, you know the right size?
Discover the existing pedal axle thread sizes
Surely it has happened to many bike users buying those "top" pedals and at the time of installation they discover that the measurements are not universal. :( This post comes to help you understand a little more about the existing measures on the market and can avoid many inconveniences.
There are three thread sizes, English 9/16 (14.2mm), American 1/2 (12.5mm) and French M14 (14mm). The most used are the first two, with greater evidence for the 9/16 being the one that equips the majority of today's mtb, road and city bikes. The American 1/2" is used quite often on bmx and many children's bikes. The French one can be found on classic road bikes from the 70s and 80s
Always check the thread diameter so that there are no surprises when installing. While we're on the subject of installation, remember that each pedal has its own side, left and right, and you should not forget the tightening rotation: the right (R) pedal tightens clockwise and the left (L) pedal tightens anticlockwise. It is also good to remember to always apply a little bit of grease on the threads to make it easier to uninstall them in the future
